Recently in class, we have been talking about the five senses. There are five basic human senses: touch, sight, hearing, smell, and taste. We are learning how the sensing organs associated with each sense send information to the brain to help us understand and perceive the world around us. In the classroom, we have read a few books about the topic. We are also working on observing and experimenting with our senses.
In class, we read the book Look, Listen, Taste, Touch, and Smell by Pamela Hill Nettleton, and we talked about ways we could use our senses. We also listed ways we can use our senses to experience popcorn. Within the next few weeks will be doing more with our senses!

Here are some video resources for parents to show their children about the 5 senses.
Start by reading the book or listening to the recording above. After you have read the book. You can go on a walk, bike ride, or car ride. It is important to have some quiet time to observe and really focus on the things you can hear. After a few minutes, you can discuss some things you hear on your adventure. If you would like to create a listening walk journal to record the things that you heard, go right ahead!
This video has a few ideas for play-based activities that kids can do outside of school. These activities are great because you can use whatever you have lying around your house. Some of the activities in the video can be modified depending on the child's age, making them easier or harder. This can make it easy and fun for the whole family to join in on the activity!
