My Partnership Philosophy

As an early childhood educator, my philosophy is rooted in establishing and maintaining a strong and effective partnership with families and communities that can help children and their families thrive. "When people feel liked, valued, and respected, they collaborate more readily" (Henderson, 2007). My approach focuses on effective communication between family and school, respect for diversity, and promoting learning at home. Teaching is a process of learning from your students, colleagues, parents, and the community, it is a lifelong process. In doing this, I plan to achieve an open community with my students and their parents. "Evidence that is consistent, positive, and convincing states: families have a major influence on their children's achievements. When schools, families, and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more" (Henderson, 2007).

An effective partnership between families and a school arises from mutual trust, respect, and understanding each other's values. Together, we can create a healthy environment for children to learn and grow. In some situations, the school may not feel as helpful as they should be, and sometimes parents can feel overwhelmed with their role in this partnership. I believe that it is essential to note that 1. All parents have dreams for their children and want the best for them 2. All parents have the capacity to support their children's learning 3. Parents and school staff should be equal partners 4. The responsibility for building partnerships between schools and home rests primarily with school staff, especially school leaders (Henderson, 2007).
